SLY

Age: 60

Location: London

Occupation: Car Fabricator

A carer to his 90 year-old mother, Sly is a laugh a minute, optimistic and energetic East End Londoner. Known as a friendly grandfather type figure amongst his friends and his family, he loves to go above and beyond to help others and loves standing out from the crowd but isn’t the type to enforce the law. Having lost his son to a brain aneurysm, it’s made Sly realise life is too short to waste on being angry.

Why did you sign up for a show that you know nothing about?

Well, put it this way. I'm 60 years of age and if anybody comes and asks you, "Would you like to give so-and-so a go?" I will turn round and say, "Hell yeah, why not?" These days it feels like if you're not 20 or 25, you're past it. Everything is for youngsters, so at 60, you think your opportunities are starting to get a little bit limited. I’m determined to prove otherwise.

What do you think you bring to the show?

Skills-wise, it’s doing things with my hands, building stuff, making the best out of the least. While everybody's sleeping under the tarpaulin, I’ll have got a three-bedroom flat up in the trees somewhere, with an escalator. You know what I mean? Just making the best of what you've got. Just because you're living out in the woods, it doesn’t mean you have to live like an animal!

Is there any type of person that you wouldn't want to be on the show with?

Yeah, me! We'd be so out of breath just laughing. We wouldn't be taking nothing serious. I get on with everybody, I really do. I'm a firm believer in everybody's got their own opinions, and you can't shoot no one down for what they believe in. Be it right, wrong, stupid or indifferent. Everybody just moves to the rhythm of their own drum, don't they? So, I'm not there to convince anybody that what I'm doing, or what I'm saying, is the truth or the right thing. like I said, don't follow me, because I ain't got a clue where I'm going. I'm just winging it!
