Interview with James Argent for The Real Dirty Dancing

Why did you want to be a part of the Real Dirty Dancing?

I love Dirty Dancing! I love musicals, for a start, and I'm a big Patrick Swayze fan. I just think he's the coolest guy ever. The opportunity to try and become Johnny, it's just too good to be true, isn't it?

What do you love about Dirty Dancing?

Well, I love Johnny. I think Johnny is just the coolest guy ever. I love the music. I love the dance moves. I love the fact that it is a bit sexy, and I just love the story. I just love everything about it. But the music is number one. The songs are just amazing.

Watching the movie, who did you fancy the most?

You can't help but love Baby, but if I'm being honest, it's hard to take your eyes off Johnny, isn’t it? He's just the coolest guy ever, really. Even the men and the women both love Johnny, I think. He's too cool.

Can you relate to Johnny in any way?

Not in real life. I had to try and become Johnny, which is what you have to really work on. If I'm being honest, it doesn't particularly come naturally to me, being Johnny. I'm not necessarily very poor. I wasn't a professional trained dancer. But the whole point of the show is you've really got to become him and get into character and truly believe you are him and work towards being the closest thing to Johnny as possible. I like to feel that I gave that a really good go along the way.

Dirty Dancing is about the chemistry, how did you bring that out when you were dancing?

I think just by not thinking too much, and not worrying about it, just really going for it and feeling more confident within myself.

What was it like working with Ashley and Keith?

They're both absolutely amazing people. Keith I've known for years. I've done many appearances on Celebrity Juice, and Through The Keyhole, so he’s been round my house, I always have a really good chat to him whenever I bump into him.

How would you sum up this experience of The Real Dirty Dancing?
I would just say we had the time of our lives. It's a bit cheesy, but it's true!
