Comedy

Comedy at Channel 4 should be original, bold, and distinctive with a real sense of authorship. Recent output includes Big Boys, Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, Hullraisers, Derry Girls, The Curse, Stath Lets Flats, and We Are Lady Parts.

Channel 4 has a special relationship with new talent and we are more likely to take risks on unknown comedians and writers than any other broadcaster. So alongside championing brilliant and original writing, we are passionate about launching the next generation of great comic performers.

Channel 4 cannot accept unsolicited materials so individual talent will need the backing of a PACT-registered production company in order to submit ideas to the Comedy Team. A stand-out script is the first crucial stage in making a great show, but you'll also need skilful casting, production, direction and post-production. Your production company and you can then pitch the idea alongside supporting materials (treatment/sample scenes/script/taster tape etc.), to our Commissioning Editors (Andy Brereton, Laura Riseam & Joe Hullait).

The Channel 4 Comedy Team will be announcing a new brief in Spring 2023. In the meantime, please send anything our way you think has Channel 4’s ethos to innovate, take risks, empower and include at its very core. But do clash-check ideas against our recent comedy output as we won’t be taking on anything too similar.

When submitting an idea to the Comedy Team do NOT copy in Charlie Perkins. Send to Eva O'Flynn or Serena Basra.

To make sure we are inclusive and accessible to all, please let us know if you require any adjustments or assistance for meetings and communications with you.
