All 4 is a free-to-view video on demand service but we do require users register their details to watch. Registration is free and gives access to all of Channel 4's latest shows and unlocks access to an extensive archive of classic programmes and downloads to watch offline. All 4 is designed to help us deliver programmes that our viewers will like and want to watch. We aim to personalise the experience so it's unique for our users and need viewer details to do this. It helps us get to know you better and deliver more targeted advertising which is how we fund our programming.
All 4's content is free to watch because we are a 100% advertiser-funded broadcaster. As a government-owned, not-for-profit organisation, the revenue we make from advertising doesn't go to shareholders – it goes back into making more programmes.
Knowing more about our viewers also means we can restrict age related content to the right audience and ensure children and young people are unable to access inappropriate content on the service.
Our Privacyand Cookiespolicies provide all the information you need to understand how, where and why we use your data. But you are in control and can update your preferences at any time, including by opting out of targeted advertising, personalisation and data pairing. To do this, sign in to your account at www.channel4.com – select My 4 – Account Settings. It's up to you whether you want to receive emails from us, but even if you haven't opted in to receive emails, we may still need to send you service messages, which will contain important information about our services, such as changes to our policies.

If you can't find the programme you're looking for it could be due to a number of different reasons. It may be the case that the programme is no longer on the service (programmes that have been selected for Catch-up are only available for 30 days after broadcast). Alternatively, Channel 4 may not own the rights to show this programme on All 4. Finally, it could be that the programme has not been selected to be made available on the All 4 service.
If there is a programme you particularly want to see on All 4, let us know and we can check if it will be coming in the future or we can pass on your suggestion that it should! -
The All 4 service is available to over 16s. We ask for your date of birth to ensure that users are old enough to create an All 4 account and that age appropriate content is served. It's also used to make our advertising more relevant to you.

Programmes on All 4 are streamed with advertising before and during the show.
-
Channel 4 must acquire specific rights to provide programmes on All 4 that aren't always covered by existing television rights. Therefore it can't be guaranteed that all programmes will be available to view.
-
Every programme made available as part of the All 4 service has a rights period or "length of availability" associated with it. An episode which has been broadcast in the past 30 days on one of our channels will have certain "catch-up" rights, and the episode will only be available in line with this rights window. The expiry date reflects this window, and this will differ from programme to programme. If there is no expiry date displayed this means that the programme is available on-demand for at least the next 30 days.
-
We take accessibility seriously and whilst we aim to subtitle as much content as possible, unfortunately, not everything on All 4 will carry subtitles. In particular, this could be some of our older content that was subtitled live on our linear services or where the version of a programme on All 4 differs to the one originally broadcast. Subtitles are supported on most of our platforms and we are committed to continuing to extend accessibility on All 4 where possible.

Similarly if you press pause, you will be able to resume when you select that episode again.

Streaming requires an internet connection that's free of bottlenecks. However, the internet isn't a direct pipeline from the source to you. Streamed content passes through many other computers on its way to your PC via your ISP. If any one of them is carrying too much other traffic, the streamed content may be interrupted and pause. Our streamed content is 'buffered' to help prevent such problems, but sometimes delays are unavoidable. Usually the delay only lasts a few seconds, and the stream picks up where it stopped. Streaming problems are more likely to occur on a slow computer or device that has a smaller memory and processing power. Even with a fast computer or device, if you have too many applications open it could slow down your media streaming. If you notice things are sluggish, close all unnecessary applications and windows on your computer or device. The faster your network connection (modem, cable, DSL) and computer speed (in megahertz), the higher the quality of the stream.
-
In order to stream content it has to be quite heavily compressed. Unfortunately this process does result in some degradation of picture quality, particularly when watched in full screen mode.
-
All 4 uses geo-blocking software to detect where your computer is located when it connects to the internet. Occasionally you may be accessing from the UK or ROI but the software mistakenly thinks your location is outside this area, and so blocks your access to All 4. This is most likely caused by the way your Internet Service Provider sets up and manages Your account. We suggest you contact your Internet Service Provider and explain the problem, which they should be able to resolve.
-
Channel 4 must acquire specific rights to screen programmes via All 4. Therefore, it can't be guaranteed that all programmes or series will be available via all devices which carry All 4.
-
The All 4 application automatically detects the best available bandwidth to play out the most suitable quality video/audio format. If you are in an area with low Wi-Fi connectivity, the application will detect this and send a lower quality video stream and an alert message is displayed to indicate the connection is running too slowly to play video. As soon as the application detects you are in an area with better Wi-Fi connectivity, a higher quality video stream is transmitted.

There are specific accessibility features built into YouView platform which may be helpful for many users with visual impairments. However, not all YouView Accessibility settings currently work within the app. The app does have a high contrast style, which is supported and has highly visible focus highlighting when navigating the content. These features are very well supported for users when viewing programmes on the All 4 big screen app on a TV. Unfortunately, the 'Zoom' function on YouView does not currently work once the app has been selected. Some televisions may enable users to increase the size of the screen. So please check your manufacturer's instructions for details.
